Exterior Painting Services

Masonry and Rendered Walls

1930s and 1950s rendered semis in Mowden develop hairline cracks from seasonal movement. The exposed north-east elevation catches prevailing wet weather. Without proper crack filling and a flexible masonry coat, moisture tracks in and paint fails within one or two winters.

Every elevation before quoting is inspected. Cracks are filled with flexible exterior filler and allowed to cure before any paint goes on. Your decorator applies a masonry primer to bare areas and two coats of breathable exterior masonry paint as standard.

For masonry painting projects, we cover brick, render, and stone surfaces across the full property.

Windows and Woodwork

Timber windows on Darlington’s Victorian and Edwardian properties are original joinery. Bay window frames on North Road and sash windows in Cockerton have been in place for over a century. Your decorator strips back to sound timber, applies an oil-based primer, and finishes with two coats of durable exterior gloss or satin.

For wood painting projects, we cover all exterior timber including window frames, bargeboards, and original cladding.

Fascias, Soffits, and Gutters

Fascias and soffits on older properties have often absorbed years of moisture. We clean, sand, and prime before any finish coat goes on. Skipping preparation on these surfaces leads to paint peeling within a season.

Cast iron gutters and downpipes on North Road and Cockerton terraces can be cleaned, treated with rust-inhibiting primer, and repainted. This extends their life at a fraction of the cost of replacement.

Complete Exterior Coverage

Front Door and Porch

A front door sets the character of a period property. Victorian panel doors on Gladstone Street and hardwood entrance doors on Mowden’s detached homes both need sanding back to sound paint, filling, priming, and two coats of durable exterior finish.

A freshly painted front door is one of the highest-impact single improvements you can make to a property’s appearance. We offer front door painting as a standalone service, covering all external door types.

Garden Walls and Outbuildings

A well-painted house with a neglected outbuilding reads as unfinished. We include garden walls, sheds, and outbuildings in exterior project quotes and apply the same preparation standard as the main property.

Our shed painting and deck painting services extend to all outbuildings and timber structures in the garden.

Here’s How It Works

1. Site Assessment

Every external surface at the quotation visit is inspected. Your decorator notes render condition, biological growth, timber deterioration, and any structural issues needing attention before painting starts.

2. Surface Preparation

Rendered walls are cleaned with mould treatment and allowed to dwell fully. Cracks are filled with flexible exterior filler. Timber is stripped back to sound material and all loose paint is removed.

3. Priming

Bare masonry gets masonry primer. Bare timber gets an oil-based primer. Cast iron gets rust-inhibiting primer. Priming is never skipped in our process.

4. Paint Application

We monitor forecasts and plan application phases around dry weather windows. Two finish coats are standard. Exposed north-east elevations in Harrowgate Hill sometimes get a third coat based on surface condition.

5. Inspection and Sign-Off

Once the final coat has cured, your decorator inspects all surfaces in good light and completes any touch-ups. Your decorator walks the property with you before closing the job.

Exterior Painting Costs in Darlington

Prices below are estimates only. Every property is different. Call 01325 796601 for a precise quote.

What Drives the Price

An exterior repaint in Darlington typically costs between £1,400 and £6,500 depending on property size, surface condition, and scope.

Surface area and access. A detached home in Hurworth-on-Tees has considerably more wall area than a North Road terrace. Two-storey rendered elevations need staging or access equipment, which adds time.

Surface condition. Rendered semis in Harrowgate Hill that have not been painted in several years often need more crack repair than properties elsewhere. Timber in poor condition needs stripping back.

Paint system. Standard exterior masonry paint is the most economical option. A breathable, flexible masonry finish for exposed elevations costs more per litre but holds significantly longer on North East-facing rendered walls.

Typical Ranges

Victorian terrace (1860s–1900s, North Road or Rise Carr): exterior walls and woodwork £1,400 to £1,900, including front door.

1930s rendered semi (Mowden or Harrowgate Hill): exterior repaint of front elevation, side, and rear where accessible £1,900 to £2,800.

Detached (Hurworth-on-Tees or Yarm): full exterior with all woodwork £3,500 to £6,500 depending on size and paint system.
